From Grapes to Grazing: A Story of Stewardship

At Rivaura Estate Vineyard & Winery, the rhythm of the land extends far beyond the vineyard rows. While most visitors know us for the vines stretching along the Clearwater River, the roots of this property run just as deep in agriculture and ranching. Throughout the year, our vineyard crew often lends a hand on the cattle ranch side of the operation—pitching in during haying season, helping move cattle through the pastures, and gathering for branding days that bring everyone together. It’s a reminder that great wine begins with people who truly live and work the land.
When hay season arrives, the pace shifts from the quiet precision of vineyard work to long days in open fields. Vineyard staff who spend much of the year tending vines find themselves stacking bales, running equipment, and helping bring in the feed that will carry the herd through the winter months. It’s hard work, but it reflects the same values that guide everything we do at Rivaura: stewardship, resilience, and respect for the land that sustains us.
Branding days, in particular, bring a sense of tradition and community to the ranch. Much like harvest in the vineyard, it’s a time when everyone steps in to help—whether working cattle, preparing equipment, or lending an extra set of hands where needed. These shared moments tie together the agricultural heritage of the property, blending ranching and viticulture into one story. At Rivaura, the vines and the cattle may serve different purposes, but they are cared for by the same hands and shaped by the same commitment to the land.
