Long before he became known for his work in wine, Drew Bledsoe built a legacy on the football field as a No. 1 overall NFL Draft pick, Super Bowl champion, and one of the most recognizable quarterbacks of his era. Today, his focus has shifted from stadium lights to vineyards, where he’s built something just as meaningful: world-class Washington wine.
Recently, the Lewis-Clark Valley had the pleasure of welcoming Drew as the guest speaker for the breakfast fundraiser of the Boys & Girls Club of the Lewis Clark Valley. While here, he joined a few community leaders for an unforgettable evening at Rivaura Estate Vineyards & Winery. What made the evening especially meaningful was the shared connection between two wine regions. After retiring from the NFL, Drew returned to his hometown of Walla Walla and founded Doubleback Winery with his wife, Maura. What began as a passion project has grown into Bledsoe Wine Estates, which today includes Doubleback, Bledsoe Family Winery, and Bledsoe|McDaniels.

Throughout the evening, guests enjoyed outstanding food by Bun Bun’s Kitchen, exceptional wines from both Rivaura and Bledsoe Wine Estates, and engaging discussions about the wine industry, agriculture, family businesses and of course a little football. Drew’s genuine appreciation for wine and farming was evident in every conversation. While many know him for his accomplishments on the football field, it quickly became clear why he has earned so much respect in the wine world as well. His commitment to quality, stewardship of the land, and dedication to building lasting wine brands mirrors the values that drive many family-owned wineries throughout the Pacific Northwest.
At Rivaura, we believe wine has a unique ability to bring people together. Whether it’s family gathered around a table, friends sharing a bottle, or industry leaders exchanging ideas, great wine creates memorable experiences and meaningful connections. Drew’s visit was a perfect example of that spirit. We are honored that he chose to spend part of his time in the valley with us and grateful for the opportunity to share the hospitality, wines, and beauty of the Lewis-Clark Valley.
Thank you, Drew, for the visit! We look forward to raising a glass with you again soon.
